Einar Baldvin is an Icelandic artist, writer and animation director.

He holds a BFA degree in Experimental Animation from Calarts and MFA in Animation from USC School of Cinematic Arts.

His master’s thesis from USC ‘The Pride of Strathmoor’ premiered at The Telluride Film Festival in 2014 and went on to win awards at several top festivals, including the grand animation prizes at Slamdance and Florida Film Festival in 2015 as well as winning Best Nordic Short at Nordisk Panorama. The hand-drawn film, which details a racist pastor’s descent into madness leading up to a feverish boxing match between a white fighter and black fighter, was also featured in The Atlantic where it was called “an artful and complex animated short that crawls into your mind and refuses to leave.”

In 2015, Einar co-founded GLAS Animation with Jeanette Jeanenne GLAS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose core mission is to cultivate and promote the art and science of animation. In 2015 Einar and Jeanette launched the GLAS Animation Festival, which has since grown into being the largest, and most prestigious animation, festival in the United States.

In 2018, Einar released the graphic novel ‘The Crawling King’ in collaboration with Starburns Industries, the studio behind the Oscar-nominated film ‘Anomalisa’ and the animated hit ‘Rick and Morty’ The book is a collection of dark hand-written stories and illustrations. It was distributed worldwide by Diamond Comics.

Commercially, Einar has done animated work for Apple, George R.R Martin, JK Rowling,  Strawberry Frog,  Adult Swim and FX Networks. His work on the campaign 'Out The Monster' by OREXO was awarded the Gold Lions Health Award at the Cannes Lions Festival in 2015.

Einar also teaches as an adjunct professor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where he teaches story development at the MFA level.
